SIA consultation on its Martyn's Law guidance closes

The SIA's consultation on its draft section 12 guidance closed on 12 June 2026. The final guidance and a full consultation report are expected in autumn 2026.

The Security Industry Authority’s consultation on its draft section 12 guidance — how it will act as the regulator for Martyn’s Law — closed on 12 June 2026. The SIA said it would use the responses to finalise the guidance, and would publish the final version alongside a full consultation report in autumn 2026.

The consultation did not reopen the Act itself, which Parliament has finalised. It covered the SIA’s risk-based, proportionate approach to regulation: how it will guide premises towards compliance, how it will inspect and assess compliance documents, and how it will use its enforcement powers and set financial penalties once the regime is in force.

Nothing is required of responsible persons yet — the duties are not in force and the SIA’s notification portal is not open. The value of the final guidance, when it lands, is that it shows how the regulator intends to behave, so premises can prepare with that in mind.
